1/ The Sheffield Shield final is on.

2/ Sixteen wickets on the first day was rather more than anyone bargained for, but there was swing, seam, and no little evidence of nerves after the week of build up. Sheffield Shield finals have been drawn out affairs in their history; day three at Karen Rolton Oval already looks a long way away.

3/ The scores in the IPL, by contrast, keeping climbing, to the point where 300 is within cooee - Dale Steyn has even put a date on when it will be achieved, envisioning Sunrisers Hyderabad as leading the way. Maybe by then someone will have come up with a word other than ‘smash’ to describe batting in the IPL.
