Allegations cast a pall over proceedings
PL the West Indies side has been forced to address disturbing allegations against a star player
As Roston Chase took his chair for the traditional captain’s press conference, a dapper young Caribbean man with a pencil-thin moustache and a team tracksuit introduced himself as West Indies media manager Randy Howard. A ripple of recognition and cheerful hellos came from the floor. “Ahhh, so you’re Randy …”.
The travelling media pack had yet to lay eyes on the man whose eye-catching name was attached to emails keeping us up to date with the country’s cricket.
Randy smiled briefly, but indicated there were more important matters to deal with.
“I just wanted to start procedings by making the statement that we are aware of the information that is circling on social media and other media channels. However, I would like to reiterate that Cricket West Indies has not …”
The media manager was interrupted by an anxious local cameraman whose microphone had not been put in place.
Technical issues sorted, he began again.
“We are aware of the information that is circulating on social media and other media channels. However, Cricket West Indies has not received any communication or official information, and therefore, we are not in a position to comment at this time. I'm referring that statement now, because if any further questions come through Roston during this press engagement, I will have to step in to reiterate that statement, because, like I said, we have not received any communication or official information, and therefore we are not in a position to comment at this time.”
Geoff Lemon interjected from the floor.
