Bob Marley’s Land Rover

Mitchell Starc joked yesterday that after one net session, the batters were predicting a two-day Test after facing the pink Dukes. At the time of publishing, the jury is out on the makeup of the Australian side. Pat Cummins reports they’re considering changes given the nature of a day-night Test at Sabina. Presumably, that may mean Nathan Lyon missing out for Scott Boland. Or, maybe, they’re going to shore up the batting by bringing Marnus Labuschagne or Josh Inglis in. After all, if you are expecting it to be spicy, taking wickets is not going to be an issue.

Meanwhile, I’ve been exploring Jamaica and found this classic 1973 Series III Land Rover (pictured above) parked at the back of Bob Marley’s house on Hope Road in Kingston, which reminded me of a story that Michael Holding told a few years back.

Holding nodded a greeting, and Bob greeted him back – by name.

“Bob Marley, knew my name!” the West Indian legend declared with pride, his face lighting up with a smile at the memory of that passing encounter.

Not having read the rules about not taking photos (hopefully it only applied to the house), I snapped a picture of the Land Rover and sent it to Holding, asking if Marley was driving this car on that memorable day.

No, he replied, he was in his navy BMW.
