As South Australia prepares to host the Sheffield Shield final, Travis Head is in India landing the first blows on Jofra Archer in the IPL. Queensland is in the happy position of being able to call on both Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne, but will arrive at Karen Rolton in a sorrier state than they should.

It is hard to remember a worse spectacle than that sparked by Joe Dawes’s decision to criticise his state’s former captain in the days after the state had qualified for the final and it is hard to imagine it will not have ongoing consequences.
