John Maclean was deserving of a baggy green albeit it came very late in his career. His first test in Brisbane included a brilliant left hand catch diving full stretch down the leg side to dismiss Phil Edmonds. He should never have played in Sydney when Ian Maddocks was placed on standby. That was that but bizarrely he played an ODI afterwards. Selection was so odd back then. Australia had four vice captains that summer. Go figure.
The David Peace quartet is fantastic. His GB84 about the miners strike also well worth a read.

I'd forgotten about Ian Maddocks!
A great Victorian!
Successor to the mighty Peter Sacristani.
Ian was another case of so near yet so far.
