Eric Midwinter and his contemporaries would have been well aware that "Brylcreem Boys" was a slang term, usually used witj a mixture of disparigment and envy, to refer to fighter pilots within the wartime RAF but which broadened to encompass any member of the RAF in general. Sqn Ldr Bill Edrich DFC was very much a Brylcreem Boy in this sense, as was Keith Miller.
