There must be some risk with Hazlewood getting through a whole test so we need both allrounders playing. I would rest Lyon for the first 2 tests and play Webster. He's in good bowling form and would definitely strengthen the batting at 7 or 8. This way we can play Weatherald, have Marnus at 3, Green at 6 etc. With Cummins not playing the tail looks especially long but having Webster in for Lyon will hopefully remedy this. Lyon will hardly be needed in Brisbane. Webster's bowling and fielding prowess are highly underrated.
Mentioned in older thread…Lyon doesn’t have a great record at Optus other than against Windies, NZ and Pakistan - hardly the best batting teams in the world. Lyon’s only big success against quality opposition at Optus was the first test played there in 2017. I love Lyon as a bowler but our batting has been very brittle and needs bolstering. Having said that, if Hazlewood is out, that makes Lyon more important for Perth.
Hot dry weather leading into Test 1 this week is predicted. The pitch may be flatter than people think. Lets just see if the predictions of a three and a half day test are on "the money". Im thinking ... day 5, middle session; say 2.45pm ... more like!!
Anyone who watched the end of the NSW V Vics game….Josh was limping badly after the game when shaking hands with the Vics. You don’t limp like that for nothing. Don’t believe the CA spin he’s ok, scan or no scan.
Josh, of course, broke down at Optus against NZ. But if he's any chance of breaking down, you don't pick him; I don't believe in choosing Webster because he might.
