Loved this pod.

Gideon - the sequence of your revealing your contraversial final song for Michael Clarke is the funniest thing I have heard in many years. And your deadpan delivery and follow up line endured by Pete who was stoic not to betray his love and fondness for Michael. Absolutely brilliant stuff.

My lasting memory of Michael Clarke is the eulogy he gave at Philip Hughes funeral. It might have been written for him, but it was very moving.

Fascinating discussion of Clarke! As a Kiwi, I’m used to the usual cycle of loathing Aussie captains only to discover how likeable many are post-career. That has never happened with Clarke.

I always thought the Southern Cross blue between Katich and Clarke was the start of the publics scepticism of Pup. Imagine an alternate world where Katich was given the captaincy instead, and Clarke left to his cover drives and shit tattoos.

Purple Mountains! Can’t go wrong with Berman.

That's an interesting perspective, SP. No, first impressions were a pretty solid guide with Clarke.

Thanks, GH. I think Kiwis and Australians like our captains tough, but always egalitarian, a sense they’d look out for the team above all. No yachts over singing songs with your mates.

Reminds me in New Zealand there was similar disdain for Martin Crowe’s lifestyle: yachts, plus models and wine. The public preferred Ruds, the scrappy, beery Dunedinite for captain, despite the clear gulf in talent.
