Pitch perfect Perth highlights pathetic batting performance
PL on ICC pitch rating and golf
Well, this is awkward.
ICC has delivered its verdict on the Perth pitch and rated it …. “very good”.
That’s the highest rating a match referee can give its surface.
Fans knew. At one point in the post-match chaos, the ground staff at Perth Stadium walked through the commentators and circus assistants, and received a heartfelt round of applause from fans gathered on the fence as they made their way back to their digs.
The fans’ admiration may have been because this was a wicket on which Australia won, but there was absolutely nothing wrong with this pitch that had platformed one of the fastest Test matches in the history of the game.
Under the four-tier ranking system, a VG pitch is one with “good carry, limited seam movement, and consistent bounce early in the match, allowing for a balanced contest between batters and bowlers”.
Or, to put it another way, the batting was shite. The pits. Woeful. Not up to Test match standard.
