It was hard to understand why the Australians didn’t declare and put India straight in at the Gabba this morning. The bonsai’d first day, impatience, the darkness, the sense that rain was hovering just over above the ground, the showers that had passed across Brisbane all morning - and were lining up like airplanes on the radar - suggested the time was right and that time was of the essence, but Patrick Cummins has proved over the journey he is never in a rush.
