Bumped into Angus Young in the public toilet at the Marrickville Metro this morning and was, needless to say, amused by the random encounter. I mean, seriously, when did we get to that point in life when the Peter Pan of Bogan Punk’s existence would be celebrated in the adult accessible changerooms of a suburban shopping mall? The world is so far down the shitter of late that it’s hard to find anything to celebrate, but the embrace of snot-nosed musicians is one thing that gives me hope.
I can think of nothing more glorious or appropriate tribute.
Listeners to the podcast over the years will have detected our awkward obsession with what’s politely called ‘sanitation’. In 2023, we visited and recorded a podcast at Dr Bindeshwar Pathak’s Sulabh International Museum Of Toilets in Delhi, a few months later we travelled out to Abbey Wood on the outskirts of London to marvel at the workings of the Crossness Pumping Station, the pumping heart of Joseph Bazalgette’s magnificent sewer system.

Gideon was not with me when I stumbled on this magnificent tribute to Angus, but I’ll make sure next time he is in the Inner West that I take him for a visit to this sanitationary (sic) celebration of AC/DC’s last surviving member.
Et Al subscriber Howard reminded us when we posted about Et Al’s successful push to get Bob Simpson’s Marrickville home commemorated by the council that Mick Jagger’s mum, Eva, was born in the same suburb. Simpson’s house at 517 Illawarra still stands. I’m not sure about what happened to Mick’s mum’s place which was, according to the family, a bungalow next to a pub.
