A few weeks ago, I saw this local band who have been a cover band of The Fall for 20 years or so (there was a Joy Division and a New Order cover band on the bill too)
Mr. Pharmacist were quite excellent - found a couple of videos of them:
I find it amazing that they have built up a local cult following by playing just The Fall. The venue was rammed packed to the gills. They are soooo local...don't travel far. Just the Toronto and immediate local areas.
I took a couple of people who had never heard of The Fall (and my Welsh mate who is a fanatic anyways) and the newbies had their jaws on the floor. They just fucking loved it. They did not know a single song but walked out in a daze. (Of course, I had to explain the name of the band before over beers in the pub)
Where are Van Der Graaf Generator on that Manchester bands list?
Killdozer's live version of 'American Pie' (both sides) was something to be at. And I was quoting the lyrics to 'Lupus' to a friend only the other day.
Do you know John Otway? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dyFa70qIDwk. Hold's the WR for most live gigs. Eccentricly brilliant in all aspects - music, lyrics, theatre, slapstick comedy, political and social commentary. I saw him in London in 1985 just after watching Border making 196 at Lords. Just a superb day! I returned many times to London just to watch him, always live in a smallish local pub, just brilliant entertainment.
Oasis 10 votes, Joy Division 2 votes, is not a great recommendation for the press box's collective taste.
I am quite impressed that Elbow got two.
Agree on that. Oasis have no business being above Joy Division, New Order or The Smiths
It is a pleasure maintaining this playlist Gideon, glad that it is bringing others joy

That's made my day, Sriram. My appreciation of Canada grows all the time.

There is also The Extricated.

Killdozer’s Knuckles the Dog shares a tune with the Sisters of Mercy’s Some Kind of Stranger. Have a listen.
True dat. Except that SOM string their song out for seven interminable minutes.
And this of them doing "Mr.Pharmacist" - quite good they are in this:

Not seeing a single vote for New Order is distressing.
