The second coming of Sam Konstas? Not quite the miracle of the first time around. The lame didn’t walk, the water would not wine and the sick seemed to get even sicklier.

Somewhat disappointed with young Sam’s second efforts, Australian eyes turned toward Steve Smith’s impending admission to The 10,000 Club, but that too proved something of a letdown. That door is still closed to the former skipper, the letter of acceptance has been readdressed to his family home in Sydney.

Smith’s 13 runs on the fourth day takes his career tally to 9,962. Were Tony Greig alive the marketing team would be scripting the sales pitch for the ‘marvellous piece of memorabilia to mark 10,000 runs by SCG’s celebrated son’.
