First, a footy story. It concerns the 2003 AFL Grand Final, which I watched, as you tend to when you have no skin in the game, in the pub. Brisbane, if you recall, won by what a Collingwood fan would have called a lucky fifty points. What I remember most, however, is returning home, and picking up the morning papers where I had dropped them earlier, and being reminded that, only hours before, the old, slow Lions had been deemed ripe for picking by the bold, brash Pies. Indeed, the views were unanimous, and the logic apparently unassailable - merely out of date. Brisbane had defeated not only their nearest rival, it seemed, but the entire pundit-industrial complex.
