One day you could watch Pakistan Super League in India; next day you couldn’t. One day you could catch the scores on Cricbuzz; the next day you couldn’t. The same goes, it seems, for most Indian media outlets.
That day was effectively a week ago, when Islamist gunmen styling themselves The Resistance Front opened fire on Indian tourists in Pahalgam - a picturesque corner of the southern part of the two-thirds of Kashmir controlled by India. Twenty-six were killed, seventeen wounded. The Modi government has been promoting Kashmir as a ‘heaven for tourists’ since controversially tightening its grip on the territory six years ago; The Resistance Front was founded at the same time with a grimly opposite intent. Such an atrocity, then, was probably foreordained.
