It was a hard thing for an Englishman to admit, but to hell with the consequences, Sam Billings was gonna say it anyway: when David Warner is your captain you walk a foot taller.
Hopefully, nobody in the old country was listening.
It was not the first time such sentiment had been observed. It was the second time in less than a week that Billings alone had praised the captain, but he’s not been in this.
They’re lining up to praise Warner much like they have lined up to bury him on so many other occasions.
Warner has led the Thunder from the bottom of the BBL table last season to a place in the final against the Hurricanes on Monday. He has done it as much through the force of his will as much as his talent. And, as he has done so often in his career, in doing so he has proved there is more to this enigmatic cricketer.
It was occasionally observed that Shane Warne was the best captain Australia never had and the same must be said of Warner (both filled in but never held the job).
