There is trouble in the Indian dressing room, with reliable reports that the coach read the riot act to players following the loss in Melbourne, and suggestions Rohit Sharma’s leadership is being undermined.

There had been hints of discord in the dressing room before a series of ill-disciplined shots on the last day at the MCG triggered a catastrophic collapse that saw Australia take a 2-1 lead in the series.

Ravi Ashwin’s decision to quit after missing the Gabba Test suggested things were not all well in the side under new coach Gautam Gambir. Captain Rohit Sharma indicated he’d wanted the champion spinner to at least stay and see if he would play in Melbourne, but the veteran would not change his mind.
