I'm not sure it matters much that Bethell hasn't scored a first-class century. The more pertinent statistic is that he has played only 26 first-class games, in which he has averaged 28. In the last year he has played only three first-class games, because of the England management's curious belief that hanging out with the Test team would be better for him than actually playing some cricket. In somewhat similar circumstances to this Test, he was called in for the final Test against India and unsurprisingly looked like someone who hadn't played in quite a while. He's the most unfortunate victim of the England management's inexplicable belief that playing cricket is bad for your cricket.
Don't be so modest about the joy that birds can bring Peter.
When we lived out of town a Galah family were regular feeders at a bowl out the front of the house.
If the food wasn't in place dad would come to the window and tap it for attention to our duty. He came to be known as "Demander". Almost a family member.!
Merry Christmas to et al. Thanks Pete and Gid for another brilliant year. I have a feeling that Green may very well unleash the shackles at 7 because if not then what? My favourite thing about Xmas in the UK is not having to wait for Boxing Day but settling in front of the fire as the troops head to bed after Xmas Day. Unfortunately a conundrum has arisen and Netflix have decided to drop the next batch of Stranger Things at 1am and the kids have spoken. So I’ll have to fire up the laptop but hey isn’t Xmas all about the kids anyway? 🙄
I thought the insta post really meant ‘Without Me’ but I couldn’t make that fit with the news reports 😂 I’ll be wearing the freshly laundered Usman tomorrow ❤️
If it is the case that Green & Richardson are both on limited overs then perhaps they equal one quick between them ?
So far the management seems to have succeeded with the handling of the players with injury clouds. Perhaps it can continue in that vein..... By contrast England have lost both Wood & Archer who were slated to be the Ashes winning difference.
Happy for Ussie, feel bad for Inglis even though he didn’t have a great showing in Adelaide, you’re in the top 6 batters then after one test you are not….?
Staggered that a player who has not hit a first class hundred is picked to play for his country - I think Travis Head was made captain of South Australia without a hundred to his name though ( or was it Nathan Adcock?)
So far this Ashes, Oz has scored 1,637 in 337 overs @ 4.9/over & 37.2 runs/wicket.
Poms have 1,549 @ 3.8/over & 25.8 runs/wicket.
So much for Bazball being this wonderful attacking, successful approach as Poms have scored slower, taken less wickets & lost 3-0. They’ve sacked the Pope at Christmas 🎄& the Jockey Duckett’s fallen off the wagon in Noosa. Good luck to Punchy Stokes on Boxing Day 🥊
Doggett will miss, I guess, hope Richardson is actually fully fit. Would have been good to see Murphy play, and Green pick up more bowling. Oh well, I guess the selectors have got it pretty right so far.
Happy Christmas to all. We also have visitor magpies, who a year or so ago, not at Christmas, brought us a couple of beautiful rocks. But we don’t see them as much as the crows have moved in.

An XI-mas miracle for Uzzie

Merry Christmas to all of the Cricket et al community.
It’s now many hours on & the 12 has been confirmed with no spinner.
All seems a little strange especially with Green in & no Webster - Trev will be warming up in the outfield very early on.
If 3 quicks + Green can get them out I don’t know what difference 4 quicks + Green will necessarily make.

I don’t think Inglis is in the top six batters. His primary role is keeping but not while Carey continues to be brilliant

Green is a fortunate boy. I'd happily release him to concentrate on his IPL career.
He could turn out to do well and go on from there 🤞
But Webster is unlucky
Especially with no spinner. Beau could have rolled out the offies

Hopefully a bit of Christmas turkey magpies, albeit l see they’re not wearing their Santa hats.
Turkey for the magpies, I’m not suggesting the magpies could be a turkey substitute.
