I played against him in the Birmingham League back in the 80s. He played in the same side as David Steele, and they often opened the bowling together and bowled right through the innings, two left-armers who seemed to be in a contest to see who could deliver the ball most slowly over 22 yards. Cricket, but different.
This was a beautiful tribute. Dilip Doshi's cricket career can be nicely summed by pinching a quote from Star Wars. Like the light sabre, he was not as clumsy or random as the battery of fast bowlers that predominated. He was 'an elegant weapon for a more civilised age' and a beautiful bowler to watch.
An excellent reflection Gideon, thank you. Dilip sounded like a wonderful man. Pretty sure he would not been on board with the bohemoth that is the IPL. HIs observations on Gavaskar do not surprise me.
I can still remember attending the SCG match where Chappell made that double ton. If I recall correctly, Doshi also brought up a ‘ton’ but his persistence rewarded him with a five-for.
He was a humble, hardworking and intelligent cricketer.
His preference to eschew rampant commercialism sets him apart from his peers, and his comments as stated here seem eerily prescient of the present direction of our great game…sold out to the highest bidders.
What a great writer was Bill O’Reilly - only complaint about him was his intense favour of NSW cricked above all - Doshi sounds lovely man - wish I had met him
Apologies for a couple of repeated lines - the outcome of trying to do three things at once.
Lovely tribute to a lovely man.

He was a gem. What a beautiful tribute to him. The description of his action is so perfect. The "cobwebs" is to die for.
Just wonderful...poetic, in fact. Which fits him.
Wonderful article on a favourite of mine .
Rest in peace, a very sad week for cricket along with the very sad loss of David Lawrence

Wonderful read. I didn't know a lot about Dilip Doshi except sadly his fead with Gavaskar. I will try to locate his autobiography now :)
It's well worth reading.

I wonder how he will be remembered in India?
Might depend on how India goes tonight!

Sad. Loved watching Doshi bowl, a childhood favourite of mine.
