Et Al Pics: Happiness is a Warm Huddle
Philip Brown gets the money shot
So that is, indeed, that. England and their supporters had really high hopes before this Ashes series, but after just 11 days Australia has gone and retained the Ashes. That was quick. I’ve been ridiculously busy and have really enjoyed immersing myself in the cricket and switching off from just about everything else.
Sunday was super busy as you can imagine. The car park at the parade ground I’d used the entire week was surprisingly closed, but I did find alternative parking on the north side of the ground. Thirty five dollars if you want to know. After I finished sending my final images from day five at about 6pm, I gathered my numerous bags and tripod and headed for the exit. I decided to climb the stairs near the nets to see if there was anything happening on the ground.
There was! The Australia players and staff were in a tight circle in some glorious late evening sunshine. I quickly dropped my bags and rushed to put a 70-200mm lens on a camera body. I was very happy that I could run through the empty seats and line up the huddle with the gorgeous Adelaide scoreboard before the group stopped their singing.
Had the usual car park been open, I wouldn’t have got this picture. That’s the mad thing.
Happy Christmas by the way.

Great work. Really like the composition and light in this photo.
The team huddle is a strong symbol. The old scoreboard and its brevity of information summarises the result with clarity.
Oh yeah that's indeed the money shot right there! Golden late afternoon light as sun sets on bball or some other feeble metaphor. I imagine there's a lot of hard graft in being a cricket photographer (or any photographer) that does pay off, but you have to love it when pure dumb luck delivers!!
