Marnus bowling seam in the Shield again? Tim Paine won't be happy

From the recent Cricket Et Al podcast.

Apologies for the close up camera shots.

Just getting this brief note out there after Marnus persisted in bowling seam on the first day of Queensland’s Shield match against South Australia in order to remind you of Tim Paine’s comments in our recent podcast.

Old mate sent down 13 overs, possibly because Queensland were short handed, but also to put his hand up for a bowl if needed in the Test. Surely the Australian camp hasn’t asked him to tune up, but someone like Labuschagne would not wait to be asked. Whatever the reason, you have to love his enthusiasm, people like Marnus are great to have in a team.

When Australia were short some seam bowling in years past Warner fancied himself as an option and would wang them down at training.

To be fair, if the bowlers can contribute runs as they often do then there’s no reason the top order can’t contribute overs.

Greg Chappell was a handy medium pacer. Doug Walters had the “golden arm” that picked up 49 Test wickets. Ricky Ponting was a sweat band swinger who had ideas above his station. India’s Sourav Ganguly pocketed 32 Test wickets and even this five wicket haul in an ODI against Pakistan.

Mitch Marsh said he would be bowling in this Shield round, but did nothing on the first truncated day of that Shield game. If he is fit to bowl across the summer Australia will be very happy given there is no Cam Green.

If not then Marnus will be nagging Pat Cummins for a go.
