Towards the end, the Big Bash League becomes about asset management almost as much as cricket. Viz the Sydney Thunder in last night’s final against the Hobart Hurricanes. Sam Konstas is in Galle. Nic Maddinson, Daniel Sams, Cameron Bancroft were all fallen by the wayside. Lockie Ferguson and Sherfane Rutherford are with the Viperz in the IL20, Muhammad Hasnain to play for the Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League. Ollie Davies had just recovered from an injury at least. And there was David Warner, hero of a thousand fights, calling the shots. But, as the Thunder took the field to defend their seven for 182, Warner remained strangely mute, earpiece coiled round the back of his head but never opening his mouth even to mumble.
